What is a bogon IP address?

A bogon IP address is an IP address that doesn't belong to a specific user or server and is instead reserved for special use (local or private networks, for instance). As such, IP geolocation API doesn't return information for a bogon address, but instead returns a bogon field to show that a particular IP address is a bogon.
